Territory Acknowledgement

Across the province, health-care services operate on the territories of more than 200 distinct First Nations, who are the original caretakers and whose title and rights continue to this day.

We respectfully acknowledge that the main office of the Energy & Environmental Sustainability team is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the xʷməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh Úxw umixw (Squamish), and səlil̓ilw̓ ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Efforts toward truth and reconciliation are directly tied to the land. We acknowledge that First Nations’ have unique connections to the land, water, air, and non-human beings demonstrated over thousands of years living in reciprocity and balance with the land.

We recognize that the climate crisis, environmental degradation and ecological loss are part of a colonial legacy that continues to disproportionately impact Indigenous Peoples and that solutions need to be multidimensional, interrelated, interconnected, and grounded in First Nations law, knowledge, language, and governance. We strive to support health-care infrastructure that contributes to the wellbeing of all Peoples and communities, as well as contributes to the restoration of the ecosystems that sustain us—now and for generations to come.
