Dr. Caroline Stigant shares her personal and professional journey and inspires participants to become climate champions in their area of clinical care.
The learning objectives for this session are to:
- Learn of the local, regional, and international developments in Environmentally Sustainable Kidney Care
- Learn principles and tips from Caroline’s pathway that hopefully will inspire you to become a climate champion in your area of clinical care
- Form an approach for personal and professional actions on climate change using case example of kidney care
About the Speaker
Dr. Caroline Stigant is a mother, gardener, educator, climate activist and physician through the development and practice of environmentally sustainable kidney care. She conceived and delivers the undergraduate UBC lecture ‘The climate crisis, planetary health, and medical practice’, and is working with UBC medicine to embed Planetary Health across the spectrum of learning via the new strategic plan. She is medical lead for Island Health’s Climate Change Steering Committee, serves as chair of the CSN Sustainable Nephrology Action Planning committee, a Green+Leader, and a founding member of an emerging international collaboration uniting in the ISN’s ‘GREEN-K’ initiative. She is also a collaborator on BC Renal funded projects to determine the environmental impact of the range of kidney replacement therapies.
