Providence Health Care (PHC) is pleased to present its 13th annual Climate Change Accountability Report (CCAR) for 2022.
As a socially responsible healthcare provider, we recognize the importance of environmental stewardship in addition to our commitment to patient care.
The report celebrates 2022 achievements, including:
- A reduction in our carbon emissions by nine per cent compared to the 2007 baseline.
- Completion of several energy-efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction projects at our core sites, leading to incentive payments of $1,184,540 from FortisBC, Clean BC, and BC Hydro.
- Our Brock Fahrni site achieved an 80 per cent reduction in carbon emissions and became the first Providence facility to operate as a Net Zero Carbon Emission facility. We expect the same success story at other sites, such as Langara and Holy Family, in 2023.
- Our partnership with the University of British Columbia enabled us to explore innovative projects such as converting health care facility food waste into biofuel and fertilizer. We plan to implement this research and development project next year if our application for a federal government grant is successful.
