Amanda uses her bicycle and EVO carsharing for client visits

In 2020, Amanda Breitkreutz made the conscious decision to switch to sustainable transportation methods by biking, taking transit and using car-share, for commuting and client visits in her role as a Quick Response Team nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health.

The transportation sector produces the largest amount of greenhouse gas emissions in B.C., and passenger transport methods, such as cars, trucks and motorcycles, make up a large portion, approximately 10 metric tons of CO2 equivalent. Recognizing the negative human impacts on the environment, such as the Okanagan wildfires, and extreme temperature increases throughout B.C., Amanda wanted to further her commitment and environmental stewardship. Amanda’s actions have resulted in several personal benefits such as reduced transportation costs, increased physical activity and time savings, and she no longer finds herself going around in circles trying to find parking downtown!

She’s continually working, with the full support of her manager Esther Eidse, to increase her colleagues’ environmental awareness and find better ways to engage in improving her workplace culture – all the essential traits that make a great Green+Leader!
