Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has made significant strides in its commitment to planetary health. In it’s 14th year, here are some key achievements from the 2023 report:
- Emission Reductions: VCH achieved a 13% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2007, with a total footprint of 43,513 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) in 2023.
- Energy and Emission Projects: Initiated 26 energy and emission-related studies and projects in 2023 to reduce fossil gas consumption and improve energy efficiency.
- Strategic Framework Expansion: In January 2023, VCH expanded its strategic framework to include four pillars: Indigenous Cultural Safety, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism, and Planetary Health.
- Sustainable Facility Management: Focused on reducing energy consumption, water, waste, and emissions throughout VCH sites, and designing, constructing, and operating new low-carbon, climate-resilient, and environmentally sustainable facilities.
These efforts highlight VCH’s dedication to mitigating climate change impacts and building resilience.
