2023 Climate Change Accountability Report Vancouver Coastal Health

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has made significant strides in its commitment to planetary health. In it’s 14th year, here are some key achievements from the 2023 report:

  • Emission Reductions: VCH achieved a 13% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2007, with a total footprint of 43,513 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) in 2023.
  • Energy and Emission Projects: Initiated 26 energy and emission-related studies and projects in 2023 to reduce fossil gas consumption and improve energy efficiency.
  • Strategic Framework Expansion: In January 2023, VCH expanded its strategic framework to include four pillars: Indigenous Cultural Safety, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism, and Planetary Health.
  • Sustainable Facility Management: Focused on reducing energy consumption, water, waste, and emissions throughout VCH sites, and designing, constructing, and operating new low-carbon, climate-resilient, and environmentally sustainable facilities.

These efforts highlight VCH’s dedication to mitigating climate change impacts and building resilience.
