Integrated climate and health planning and assessments
The Together We Can: HealthADAPT project is among ten projects across the country that received funding for three years from Health Canada. Led by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), this project is a unique collaboration with Fraser Health, Health Emergency Management BC (HEMBC) and Lower Mainland Facilities Management (LMFM).
By 2022, our joint project will carry out an integrated climate and health vulnerability assessment, and develop strategic climate adaptation plans.
The HealthADAPT project is a significant step forward in our respective work to reduce climate risks to patients, health facilities and operations, and our communities of care.
Welcoming our new project lead
The four project partners also are pleased to bring on board our new Project Lead, Climate Change and Health Adaptation Planning, Craig Brown. Previously, Craig managed ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability) Canada’s B.C. office. Relying on his expertise in risk assessment, community engagement and climate action planning, Craig has worked with many local and regional governments to collaboratively assess climate risk and to develop climate change adaptation plans, most notably on Vancouver Island. Craig holds a PhD in environmental science and currently serves as a coordinating lead author for Canada’s next national climate change assessment, leading a chapter on climate impacts and adaptation in cities and towns. He is also a contributing author on the North America chapter for the next Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) international climate assessment.
