On November 7, 2024, over 100 sustainability champions gathered for the Green+Leaders Showcase & Exchange, an event celebrating environmental leadership in BC’s health-care sector. Hosted by the Energy and Environmental Sustainability (EES) Team, the event brought together Green+Leaders (G+Ls), Planetary Health leaders, managers, and sustainability allies to share success stories, exchange ideas, and spark new initiatives toward a greener health-care system.
This year’s event emphasized recognition, the final goal of the Green+Leaders program framework, celebrating individuals advancing sustainability within Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Fraser Health (FH), Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), and Providence Health Care (PHC).
A Gathering of Change-Makers
The event kicked off with opening remarks from key sustainability leaders, setting the stage for a day of learning and connection. Attendees engaged in interactive discussions, project showcases, and networking sessions designed to foster collaboration across health authorities.
One highlight was the poster project showcase, where G+Ls presented innovative sustainability initiatives. This open-format session allowed attendees to circulate, explore diverse projects, and gain inspiration from the impactful work happening across health-care facilities.
Survey feedback from after the event reflected strong appreciation for this format, with many attendees noting it as their favorite part of the event. One participant shared:
“The poster projects and time to circulate and learn about each was fantastic! Super appreciated that we heard from so many newly appointed leaders.”

Looking Ahead

Suggestions for future events included expanding opportunities for skill-building workshops and coaching to support G+Ls in their sustainability efforts.
