In recognition of their commitment to environmental stewardship and greening internal health care practices, three of BC’s Health Care sites have been recognized at this year’s Green Health Care Awards, by the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care.
The awards were presented by the Coalition’s Executive Director Neil Ritchie, at the Coalition’s virtual awards ceremony on September 21st and 22nd 2022.
The awards are based on the Green Hospital Scorecard, which is a comprehensive health care benchmarking tool that measures energy and water conservation, waste management and recycling, corporate commitment, and pollution prevention. Participating hospitals report on their environmental and sustainability initiatives through an online questionnaire and the resulting Scorecard summarizes their environmental performance relative to their peers.
BC’s Top Achievers:
Provincial Health Services Authority’s Sunny Hill Health Centre has received an award as a top scorer in the Non-Acute peer group for the ‘Water – Canada Wide’ category. As well as an honourable mention in the Non-Acute peer group for the ‘Waste – Canada Wide’ category.
Providence Health Care’s St. Paul’s Hospital has received an award as a top scorer in the Academic peer group for the ‘Energy – Canada Wide’ category.
Vancouver Coastal Health’s Richmond Hospital has received an honourable mention as a top scorer in the Academic peer group for the ‘Energy – Canada Wide’ category.
These awards are presented based on data submitted to the 2021 Green Hospital Scorecard (GHS) program, which rendered these organizations the highest score of all participating hospitals within their peer group.
