Infection Control and Sustainability: A Myth busting conversation

There is often a perception in health care that infection prevention and control (IPAC) precautions will almost always be in conflict with efforts to become more environmentally sustainable. However that’s often not the case! Come listen as Fuad Ibrahimov from the Fraser Health IPAC team and Marianne Dawson from the Energy and Environmental Sustainability team, share their individual perspectives and then have a conversation about how the two priorities can actually support each other.

Attendees will have a chance to learn about:

  • The environmental impact of health care
  • What a “circular economy” is and how health care can prioritize it
  • The key priorities of IPAC
  • Examples of collaboration between IPAC and sustainability

About the speakers:

Fuad Ibrahimov is a Manager, Evaluation and Quality Improvement for Infection Prevention and Control at Fraser Health. He joined the IPC team in August 2012. As part of his responsibilities, he contributes to the development and review of policies and guidelines related to infection prevention and control. His role also includes support for the implementation and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives aimed at reduction in health care associated infections. Fuad holds a medical degree from Azerbaijan Medical University and MPH degree from the Department of Health Policy and Management of Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia.

Marianne Dawson is a health care Sustainability Consultant with the Energy and Environmental Sustainability team, supporting Fraser Health, Providence Health Care, Provincial Health Services Authority and Vancouver Coastal Health. The team works collaboratively to support all types of health care projects, initiatives and staff. Marianne specializes in circular economy practice and waste reduction with a focus on research and special projects, data collection and analysis, and staff education and engagement.
