WELL Building Standard Version 1.0

In Oct. 2014 the International WELL Building Institute launched the WELL Building Standard Version 1.0.

This document focuses on providing building owners the tools and scorecard for enhancing people’s health and well-being through the built environment.

The document was finalized after a two-year pilot program and a formal Peer Review process.

The WELL v1.0 standard sets performance requirements in seven categories relevant to occupant health and well-being:

  • air,
  • water,
  • nourishment,
  • light,
  • fitness,
  • comfort and mind.

The WELL Building Standard is third-party certified through the International Well Building Institute's collaboration with the Green Building Certification Institute, which manages the LEED rating system.

The standard can be applied to new construction projects and major renovation projects across health care.
