City of Vancouver New Requirements for Building Energy

WHAT'S HAPPENING: The City of Vancouver has adopted new rezoning requirements as part of their Zero Emissions Building Plan (ZEBP) which includes new energy and GHG emission targets that will be required on rezoning applications as of May 1, 2017. New projects can already use these requirements in their rezoning applications.

On March 16, 2017 Martina Soderlund (P.Eng, BEMP, LEED AP BD+C) presented the new requirements to a group of lower mainland facilities management staff. Her presentation covered:

  • Review of the updated Green Building Policy for Rezoning
  • Explain the new energy targets (EUI, GHG and Thermal Energy Demand Intensities)
  • Discuss the impact on design strategies with emphasis on envelope performance and passive design
  • What to expect in your project planning process and compliance documentation
  • Q&A and open discussion with a building energy + performance specialist
